It is said that we do not read Scripture, but that Scripture reads us. “Indeed the word of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating even between soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart” (Hebrews 4). It is in the same way that art often reveals more about the viewer than art reveals about itself. Our response to injury shares that same revelatory attribute with Scripture and art.
Admonition 9: Love
1 The Lord says: Love your enemies [do good to those who hate you and pray for those who persecute and slander you]
2 For that person truly loves his enemy who is not hurt by an injury done to him, 3 but, because of love of God, is stung by the sin of his soul. 4 Let him show love by his deeds.
