When things change… another thought

I am sometimes given to modifying a homily after having already given it during Mass. Sometimes the genesis is a connected thought, sometimes a comment from a parishioner, and sometimes it is just the Holy Spirit… Here was one of today’s diversions from the original homily – When things change.

I suspect most of us (all of us?…) have day dreamed about winning the lottery. While we might not think too much about it normally, when the jackpot hits the hundreds of millions, imagination and day dream can easily take flight.  “What if…..”  And then we have fun about what we would do with our $200 million (lump sum, post tax withholding).

But think about it… every Mass we who partake of the Eucharist have just encountered the most amazing treasure in the world, beyond all measure, unlimited, and a fountain fullness of grace pouring into our lives!

So…how will we use that grace this week? We might all well use it all because there is more for those who believe. But how will you use it?

May your prayer and reflection lead you to consider your answer deeply, and may the words of St. Paul to the Ephesians guide you: “be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us.”
