A Note from Brandon

From time to time, with permission, I post one of the weekly reflections from Brandon Jubar, our parish youth minister. This week’s reflection is a reminder to us all on the need to be mindful of the movement of the Spirit in our lives and the goodness that surrounds us.

Although I’m getting older, one thing I still have in common with teens is that it’s easy to get caught up in daily life, heads-down, and focusing on personal stuff. Unfortunately, doing that can make it feel like there’s nothing but bad news out there because that’s the only news that cuts through the daily clutter. But here’s the thing – the Holy Spirit is active in the world, even if you don’t always see it. That’s why you need to shift your perspective to recognize the Spirit’s work around you and find strength and encouragement in the good things that are happening. When you’re busy with school, extracurriculars, and everything else life throws your way, it’s natural to be absorbed in your own world. You might scroll through social media or watch the news and notice that bad news seems to be all around us. It’s like a never-ending stream of negativity, and it can feel overwhelming. And the simple fact is that good news rarely goes viral, and it often doesn’t make headlines. So, it’s easy to miss the Holy Spirit’s work amidst the chaos.Let me tell you a secret. If you take a step back and really look at your life and the world around you, you’ll start noticing little signs of the Holy Spirit’s presence. It could be that friend who offered you a listening ear when you were feeling down, or that teacher who went the extra mile to help you understand a difficult subject. It could be witnessing acts of kindness, generosity, or love among strangers. You see, the Holy Spirit works in subtle and beautiful ways, often through ordinary people like you and me. When you start paying attention, you’ll realize that goodness and grace are woven into the fabric of everyday life. Recognizing these moments of God’s presence can fill your heart with joy and hope. And when you begin to see the Spirit’s work in your life and the world, it can be a source of immense strength and encouragement. It’s a reminder that you’re not alone, and that God’s love and guidance are always there for you. It’s like a gentle nudge, telling you that even in the darkest of times, there’s a glimmer of light.Don’t let the negative news overshadow the good things happening around you. Open your eyes to the Holy Spirit’s presence in the world. Celebrate the acts of love and kindness you witness, both big and small. Let those moments inspire you to be a force of positivity and goodness in the world.Remember, you are part of something much bigger than yourself. The Holy Spirit is at work, weaving a beautiful tapestry of love, compassion, and hope. So, embrace the good, be a bearer of joy, and let the Spirit’s presence fill your heart with courage and peace. Together, let’s be the ones who spread good news and bring light to the world!
