“To what shall I compare the Kingdom of God? It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch of dough was leavened.”
There are days when the Kingdom of God, the Reign of God seems like a marvelous idea that we wish we could trade in our current “state of things.” It just seems like an impossible idea.
It is like the times before the pandemic when we were stuck in endless TSA lines, suffered flight delays and cancellations, and every possible inconvenience know to modern travel – we daydreamed of being able to go to the private terminal and being whisked away on Gulfstream 700…. Up to five private living areas, Rolls Royce engines, circadian lighting to subtly dissolve your jet lag – and ergonomic seats and beds…and free wifi!
Lest you think I digress… you have better odds of getting on the Gulfstream 700 then the woman has of mixing up three measures of flour in a single batch. We are talking 300 loaves of bread.
But such is the Kingdom of God. Such things are possible for disciples. We can feed the world. The world that is waiting for the words that hold up the impossible and say that with the grace of God it will get done
Yet just as from the heavens the rain and snow come down And do not return there till they have watered the earth, making it fertile and fruitful, Giving seed to the one who sows and bread to the one who eats, So shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth; It shall not return to me empty, but shall do what pleases me, achieving the end for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:10-11)
The Kingdom of God is not just totally possibly – it is destiny.
