Governor McConaissance?

I have to admit I am not a fan of politics, politicians, and the milieu they create. I am reminded of the famous quote from Obi Wan-Kenobi: “Mos Eisley spaceport. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy. We must be cautious.” Ok, that might be a bit over the top, but it is a great quote … and if you don’t know who Obi Wan-Kenobi is … well, I can’t help you.

And you might not know this McConaissance fellow possibly running for governor in Texas. That’s alright, alright, alright. His name is Matthew McConaughey. When the actor famous for his work in romantic comedy moved to work in dramas, winning the 2014 Academy Award for Best Actor, Hollywood called it a “McConaissance.”

Now we may be on the cusp of the next “McConaissance”, as he considers a run for governor of Texas. People might scoff at an actor with no experience running for Governor, but consider Arnold Schwarzenegger, California 38th governor serving from 2003-2011.

McConaughey is the first to admit he’s not a conventional pick for Texans. “I’m not a man who comes at politics from a political background,” he says. “I’m a statesman-philosopher, folk-singing poet.” Even so, he has some thoughts about the current political climate, observing, “It’s necessary to be aggressively centric, at least, to possibly salvage democracy in America right now.” (Kara Swisher, Sway)

He hasn’t announced a 2022 run for Texas governor or even party affiliation, but actor and Texan Matthew McConaughey is favored over Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, according to the results of a September poll conducted by the Dallas Morning News and the University of Texas at Tyler.

How about that? An entire article about politics and only Hollywood actors or characters were mentioned. A trend or just emblematic of my own interests? (Can you tell it’s my day off?)
