I tell every parent that comes to me seeking to baptize their children: βThe only thing a crying child in the congregation tells me while I am in the sanctuary is that a young family brought their child to mass.β
I’ve been saying for years that a quiet church feels like a dying church. The sometimes-noisy unruliness of children is a sign that the church family is alive and kicking (often literally)!
You tend to worry this when you are an usher. I have found the best thing I can tell a struggling parent is that its ok and that you have been through the same trials. Thanks so much for sharing!

Spot on! Bring on the joyful, spontaneous children any day! π
